Making Liquid Laundry Soap

My friends all have started to make their own laundry soap. Now, if they all went to jump off a cliff or do something as equally dangerous, I would not follow. But after trying a small portion of a friends mixture made me fall in love with the idea!
Also this thought helped too, .008 cents per gallon (please correct me ladies if I am wrong)::EDIT It's .005 cents per LOAD, thanks Rebekah!). I made 5 concentrated gallons of this liquid gold, in the end it will created 10 gallons of laundry soap for my precious family. That means, 320 loads of laundry for the amount of a bottle purchased at the store (that only gives you about 36 loads!)

I photojournalised this for you all. Have fun!

Start off with a bar of Fels-Naptha Laundry Soap (NOT REGULAR SOAP!) Cut it in half. I just made a mark and shredded it to that point.

Cover the shredded soap with water and boil it for a bit constantly stirring till is all melts. It cleans the stains off the pot! (See last image)

Pour boiling mixture into a 5 gallon bucket. Add 1cup washing soda and 1/2cup borax and dissolve.

Cover mixture in hot water to the top. Cover and let sit over night. It should gel, I will show a picture later on how that looks.

My nice clean pot.

Now, I saved an old bottle that used to have the laundry soap you purchase at the store. I put 2cups of water and 2 cups of this mixture in my container and then measure a 1/2cup (I found that the line on the measuring lid is a 1/2 cup).

That is how to make laundry soap and save tons of money at the same time.

Rachel:

You make soap look yummy! It is amazing laundry soap! Drew had a bloody nose all over a favorite t-shirt and I soaked it in cold water with a bit of the homemade soap and it got all the stain out.
